This week marked the 70th anniversary of Gandhi’s assassination.
The Church has much to learn from Gandhi’s life and teachings. In remembrance, we offer this brief introductory reading guide for Christians.
We’ve ordered this list in the order that we think the books should be read, and we offer a brief explanation of why each book was included. We’ve included excerpts of most the books via Google Books.
3. Gandhi on Non-Violence (New Directions Paperbook)
Thomas Merton, Editor
Thomas Merton, the renowned author and Trappist monk who was fascinated with Eastern religions, compiled this brief volume of Gandhi’s writings on non-violence. His introduction is particularly helpful in framing these ideas that were central to Gandhi’s life for Christian readers.
