Mari Evans Reading Four of Her Poems!

Mari-Evans

Maya Angelou once said, “Mari Evans is the greatest living poet.”

In addition to greats like Kurt Vonnegut and John Green, Mari Evans is one of Indianapolis’s greatest literary treasures. In fact, a beautiful mural of Mari Evans in downtown Indianapolis looks down us as we eat, shop, and commune together. In honor of National Poetry Month, we’re delighted to share some Mari Evans poems with you.

NOTE: Ignore the YouTube titles on these videos. They are, in fact, recordings of Evans reading her work. (Links verified April 2026)
