Great list of outdoor books. I expect many of us readers will have a suggestion for #13.
Such a fine list really ought to include A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold. It’s another wonderful observation and celebration of the gift of the land right in front of us.

Still Waters: The Secret World of Lakes by Curt Stager. The prologue is 5 stars. Beautiful, poetic language.
Great list. I would add, The Wisdom of Wilderness by Gerald May.
I read Desert Solitaire by Abbey maybe 20 years ago. Parts of it were enjoyable, but I was put off by Abbey’s descriptions of and treatment of women.

Whoa… I’m not familiar with this one, but I’m completely fascinated by the Taiga (since watching Werner Herzog’s documentary “Happy People.”) and I will definitely check out this book… thanks for the recommendation!!! ~ Chris

‘Walk Across America’ – Barbara and Peter Jenkins. Peter begins this backpack journey in Upstate New York (the 52nd State according to natives) with his dog, Cooper. Meets wife, Barbara, in the deep South. Savors the goodness of America in the flyover zone … A good amble!
_Out Walking_ by John Leax merits a mention IMO.
