Reading Guides, VOLUME 11

Marilyn McEntyre – Introductory Reading Guide

Tomorrow (May 19th) marks the birthday of one of our favorite writers, Marilyn McEntyre.

In honor of the occasion, we offer this intro reading guide to her books…

We’ve ordered this list in the order that we think the books should be read, and we offer a brief explanation of why each book was included. We’ve included excerpts of most the books via Google Books.

2. Word by Word: A Daily Spiritual Practice

McEntyre has thoughtfully chosen fifteen words, and she gives each word a week, guiding readers in examining the word from seven different angles throughout the week. She draws on the spiritual practices of lectio divina and centering prayer as she encourages readers to allow these small words to help them pause and hear the voice of the Spirit. “I invite you to discover,” says McEntyre in her intro-duction, “how words may become little fountains of grace. How a single word may, if you hold it for a while, become a prayer.”
