We’ve ordered this list in the order that we think the books should be read, and we offer a brief explanation of why each book was included. We’ve included excerpts of most the books via Google Books.
1) A Black Theology of Liberation
Perhaps Cone’s most significant work. He offers a searing indictment of white theology and society, introduced a radical reappraisal of the Christian message for our time. Joining the spirit of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr., Cone radically reappraised Christianity from the perspective of the oppressed black community in North America.
NOTE: The current edition of the book (linked above) is the 50th anniversary edition released in 2020. However, Google Books doesn’t offer a preview of this newest edition, so the prior edition is featured below.
