At the beginning of all things,
a breath
God spoke a Word,
and the emptiness heard,
and out of nothing,
came everything.
Stars, moons, and planets.
This planet, Earth.
God spoke
and Earth listened.
Oceans pooled, plates shifted,
and mountains moved.
Peaks pierced the clouds.
Forests raised branches,
praising God.
Earth was covered in praising,
the colorful song and dance
of every living thing from leaf to lion,
giving thanks for light and life and breath.
And God bent low.
In the dust of the ground,
God planted a seed.
A new tree sprouted,
a family tree
that began with Adam and Eve . . .
. . .and grew and stretched
and branched
out over an expanding constellation of stars
to you and me.
We are part of this tree.
