“[Boyd] says in the introduction to his magnum opus Crucifixion of the Warrior God, “I also believe in the divine inspiration of the Old Testament (OT), primarily because I have good reason to believe Jesus treated it as such. Since I confess Jesus to be Lord, I do not feel free to disagree with him on this matter” (xxvii). What follows, then, is a two-volume argument for the Christian ethic of nonviolence, the centrality of the cross for revealing God’s other-oriented agape love, and the hermeneutical approach that emerges from the two. To be sure, Boyd’s work is a massive undertaking, not because of the thesis itself, but because the book clearly aims to be comprehensive. Through 1400 pages and paragraph-long footnotes Boyd intends to address any question of his argument and show the provenance of his premises in the work of theologians across the ages.”
