Cultivating Community in the Patient Way of Jesus
Englewood Christian Church – Indianapolis
April 3-5, 2014
A conversation curated by Chris Smith and John Pattison,
co-authors of the Slow Church book (coming June 2014, IVP / Praxis Books)
The Slow Church Conference will be hosted by Englewood Christian Church, located in an urban neighborhood on the near-eastside of Indianapolis. Englewood is an Independent Christian Church (part of the Stone-Campbell tradition of churches, which also includes the Disciples of Christ and the Churches of Christ), and the Englewood congregation has been rooted in their neighborhood for over 110 years. Englewood is very active with the Ekklesia Project, and is also home to The Englewood Review of Books.
57 N Rural St
Indianapolis, IN 46201
We are about two miles east of the center of Indianapolis, on Rural St. just north of Washington St. You can also reach us from Interstate 465 (the beltway around Indy) by exiting west at the Washington St interchange on the East side (exit 46) , and driving west about four miles. After exiting I-465, and going about 4 miles west on Washington St., you will come to a light at Rural St. Turn Right onto Rural and Englewood is on the right before you reach the next traffic light. You will go past an old school building on your right, and then past our church building. After the church building there is 3 houses and then a large driveway with stone columns on each side, just before you get to our church building. This driveway opens into a parking lot, which will take you to the main entrance of the building.

There are many hotels in downtown Indianapolis, and you should be able to get good rate through Hotwire.com or Priceline.com.
Englewood will make some space available for a small number of people to sleep in the church building (We do have showers. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag/bedding). Space will be limited, so contact us at englewood.conferences [at] gmail [ d o t ] com if you are interested in this option.
The cost of all meals and snacks on Friday and Saturday is included in the cost of conference registration. Vegetarian meals will be available, but please let us know on your registration form if you are vegetarian, so we can plan accordingly. We will also try to accomodate any other special dietary needs that you might have.
In keeping with the Slow theme of the conference, we will be trying to serve as much local food as we can (maybe as much as 90%?).
- If you are planning on driving, see the above map / directions.
- If you are planning on flying, we would be glad to arrange transportation
to and from the airport. (Englewood is about a 20 minute drive across town
from the airport.) There is a spot on the registration form to indicate whether
you will want a ride to and from the airport.
